On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Boston’s Vietnamese community in Dorchester will host a landmark gathering at Boston College High School to mark "Remembering Black April: 50 Years of Vietnamese Diaspora."
This powerful commemorative event is led by a coalition of Vietnamese-led organizations, including the 1975: A Vietnamese Diaspora Commemoration Initiative, Boston Little Saigon, Vietnamese American Community of Massachusetts, VietAID, Cultural Empowerment Organization, and the Massachusetts Vietnamese Scouts Association.
Together, they anchor a multi-day series honoring the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the beginning of the Vietnamese refugee journey. Through cultural performances, an immersive exhibition, visual arts, keynote reflections, and intergenerational storytelling, the gathering will honor the resilience, resistance, and contributions of those who fled war and rebuilt their lives in Boston and beyond.
Rooted in Massachusetts, this coalition of Vietnamese-led organizations is committed to centering the voices of those most impacted. Remembering Black April offers a bilingual space to honor the past, reconnect in the present, and reimagine the future. The April 26th gathering also launches a week of commemorative public programming from April 26–30, including a film screening and panel discussion at the JFK Library, and solemn flag ceremonies at Boston City Hall and along Dorchester’s Morrissey Boulevard.
Together, these events weave a collective story of memory, resilience, and legacy.
